Dr. Babatunde Ajibade

Dr. Babatunde Ajibade, SAN - a member of the Board, has been involved in all aspects of corporate and commercial litigation, especially in the fields of Company Law, Insurance Law and Banking Law. His experience in corporate, insurance and banking litigation has spanned all aspects of this area of the law in Nigeria. He has prosecuted and defended numerous claims on the instructions of banks and insurance companies and has also prosecuted claims on behalf of claimants against banks and insured tortfeasors. He has a firm grasp of the commercial issues involved in such litigation. Several of the matters in which he has been involved have come before the appellate courts in Nigeria and are reported in the Nigerian Law Reports.

Dr. Ajibade also has extensive experience in corporate and commercial legal practice and has been involved in the formation, maintenance and regulation of all types of business entities in Nigeria. He also has a substantial degree of experience with Company Secretarial practice. He has been involved in the Nigerian Capital Market as a Solicitor in several Public Offers of Securities and in Mergers and Acquisitions and was the pioneer Secretary, Vice-Chairman and currently Chairman of the Nigerian Capital Markets Solicitors Association and Vice-Chairman of the Rules and Regulations Sub-Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Capital Markets Committee. In this latter role, he is currently participating in an ongoing process of overhauling the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Rules and Regulations, amongst other things. He is also a Council Member of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) as well as Vice-Chairman of the Banking, Finance and Insolvency Sub-Committee of the NBA-SBL.

He has been the Managing Partner of S. P. A. Ajibade & Co since October, 1996. The firm is a broad based corporate and commercial law practice with offices in Lagos, Ibadan and Abuja.

Dr. Ajibade was called to the Bar in 1989; he obtained a LL.M in Corporate and Commercial Law from King’s College University of London in 1990; he also obtained a Ph.D in Private International Law from the same university in 1996. He has been a Fellow of the Society of Advanced Legal Studies in the UK since 1996. He was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in December, 2007 and he was awarded the International Practice Fellowship of the International Bar Association in Madrid in October 2009.

Dr. Ajibade sits as a non-executive director on the boards of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, Lome, Togo (ETI), Fan Milk Nigeria Plc, Ibadan and Fountain Holdings Limited, Ado-Ekiti, the investment vehicle of the Ekiti State Government.
